Evolve is a new performance experience that explores the relationship between law enforcement and communities of color. Combining monologues from The New Black Fest’s Hands Up: 7 Playwrights, 7 Testaments, a show written by African American men and women about their experience with racial profiling, and Cop Out: Beyond Black, White & Blue, based on interviews with police officers, Evolve seeks to stimulate conversation in a new way and help us to bridge a seemingly intractable divide.
Immediately following the performance there will be audience talk-back with Director Kevin Jones and RPI Director Dr. Dexter Gordon.
Due to seating limitations, the event is ticketed. Tickets are FREE thanks to the support of the Chism Fund for the Humanities and the Arts, Tacoma Arts Live, and the Tacoma Police Department.
The mission of the RED DOOR PROJECT, based in Portland, Oregon, is to change racial ecology through the arts. They envision a society where people from diverse racial backgrounds and experiences live, work, play, and create together, and all people have the confidence, capacity, and opportunity to fulfill their highest human potential.
