Choose your own adventure this summer and explore performing arts from every angle! Take charge of your creativity and work with friends to create, design and perform in our virtual summer camps!

All camps include collaborative "on screen" work with peers and professional Teaching Artists, as well as project-based work "off screen."

Week 1: July 6-10

Morning Program

One Act, Two Weeks (Pt. 1)

Theater is evolving and you will be a part of it! Dig into scenes and mini-plays with support from our Teaching Artists, and participate in a virtual performance. This camp runs for two weeks M/W/F, from July 6 - 17, 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Afternoon Program

Rap, Rock and Tik Tok

Starting with your favorite musical genre, we will uncover the hidden stories of what makes a song great! This camp meets M-F from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. and runs for one week, July 6 - 10.

This is the second and final week of this program. Students must participate in both weeks.

Afternoon Program

Wonky Wonka Design Challenge

Learn the basics of costume, makeup and prop design. Then tap into your creativity and design elements for a future production of Willy Wonka. Materials will be supplied for all students in advance. This camp meets M-F from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. and runs for one week, July 13 - 17.

Week 3: July 20-24

Morning Program

Choreographers Workshop

Take your dance to the next level! Beginners and advanced dancers will start each day with dance and craft their own choreography with the guidance of professionals. This camp meets M-F from 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and runs for one week, from July 20 - 24.

Improv Be Like...

Grow your improv skills through fun games and activities! Students will practice thinking on their feet, developing characters and saying yes. The last day will conclude with students showing off some of their favorite games. This camp meets M-F from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. and runs for one week, July 20 - 24.

Rock n Roll Playwright

Work with friends to write your own inspired rock n roll musical and showcase it in a virtual platform performance! This camp meets M-F from 9:30 a.m. - 12:00p.m. and runs for one week, from July 27 - 31.

Power Play

Discover how music and theater can advance social justice. Drawing from the Civil Rights Legacy Tour, you will create work that gives voice to your convictions! This camp meets M-F from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. and runs for one week, July 27 - 31.

Students will create theatrical work based on their own unique experiences and real life stories! This camp meets M-F from 9:30 a.m. - 12:00p.m. and runs for one week, from August 3 - 7.

Costume Design Mystery Basket!

The costume designer's version of Chopped: Showcase your work as you create unique costumes from a mystery basket of materials each day! Materials will be supplied for all students in advance. This camp meets M-F from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. and runs for one week, August 3 - 7.

Shadow Puppet Theater

Build your own shadow puppets, learn how to activate them, light them and tell stories with them. Materials will be supplied for all students to pick up in advance! This camp meets M-F from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. and runs for one week, August 10 - 14.

In addition to our upcoming Conservatory Camps,Tacoma Arts Live Teaching Artists are proudly serving our community by teaching in Tacoma Public Schools’ Emergency Day Camps. These innovative day camps provide high-quality care and learning for children of essential frontline workers, including hospital staff, first responders, grocery and postal workers, so that their parents can continue to go to work and keep our community safe and strong. Our Teaching Artists are honored to lead arts instruction that is infused with social-emotional learning at three Emergency Day Camp sites.
